July 06, 1876

NEW YORK HERALD, July 6, 1876

* Battle of the Rosebud Creek
* George Crook vs. Crazy Horse

* Custer Massacre a few days away

Page 3 has some very fine reports with one column heads on the fate of the soldiers in the Sioux Indian campaign: "BATTLE OF ROSEBUD CREEK" "First Fight of the Campaign Against the Sioux" "The Attack & Retreat Described" "A Terrible Slaughter of the Sioux Warriors" "The Scalping of United States Skirmishers Told by an Eye Witness" and more, with the text taking nearly 3 columns.
Also, page 4 has a lengthy article taking 1 1/2 columns with much detail, headed: "Details of General Crook's Battle With the Sioux".
These reports are dated from June 20, five days before the Custer massacre.
Ten pages, a page 4 repair affects a bit the first headline noted, with a damp stain (see photos), otherwise quite nice condition.
