THE WHEELING INTELLIGENCER, West Virginia, July 22, 1876  The front page has a report; "The Hamburg, S.C., Massacre" "A Remarkable Circumstance Noted by Col. Higginson--A View of the Affair Which Impartial Citizens Must Adopt".
The Hamburg Massacre was the first of a series of civil disturbances planned and carried out by white Democrats in the majority-black Republican Edgefield District, with the goal of suppressing black voting, disrupting Republican meetings, and suppressing black Americans civil rights through actual and threatened violence.
Also on the ftpg: "The Mohawk Disaster", being a report of the private yacht which capsized & sank on her maiden voyage in New York Harbor during an unexpected squall. Two passengers and 2 crewman survived.
Four pages, good condition. Folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
