LONDON GAZETTE, England, Oct. 11, 1666

* The Great London Fire

Contemporary mentions of the Great Fire of London are quite uncommon, as this was one of the only newspapers in print at that time and they gave minimal coverage to this tragic event. However, this issue has not one but two references to the Fire on the reverse, the first reading: "Such as have settled in new habitations since the late Fire, and desire for the convenience of their correspondence, to publish the place of their present abode; or to give notice of Goods lost or found, may repair to the corner House in Bloomsbury ...where there is care taken for the receipts & publication of such advertisements." And in the next column a report from Whitehall: "This day according to His Majesties Proclamation, was very solemnly kept the day of fasting & humiliation in consideration of the late dreadful Fire in the City of London..." (see).
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, 7 by 11 inches, very nice condition.
