September 27, 1961

THE RUSSELL DAILY NEWS, Kansas, September 27, 1961

* Roger Maris ties Babe Ruth
* New York Yankees
* Major league baseball

One of the more memorable events in baseball history was Roger Maris' run at breaking the long-standing home run record set by Babe Ruth. What made this more memorable was that teammate Mickey Mantle was also in the running that same season.

The top of page 4 has a four column headline: "Maris Unloads 60th" Also: "Maris Wants No. 61 As 'Matter of Pride'" Many consider Maris as the current season home run king due to McGwire & Bond's steroid use.

Complete with 8 pages, a few binding holes along the spine, nice condition.
