THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, July 1, 1783 

* Closing events in the Revolutionary War

Page 2 has: "Orders" to Loyalists dated at Headquarters, New York, May 26, 1783 noting: "All persons desirous to leave New York are to give in their names at the Adj. General's Office before the 7th of June next with a list of their families, expressing the place of their former residence, and where they wish to be removed to." Also: "It appears by the American papers that several towns have entered into resolutions not to admit any of the Loyalists to resettle among them...". Another item from South Carolina notes: "...that many of the Loyalists are withdrawing themselves from that colony as they find that they are become obnoxious to those who set up for independency & that they should meet with a great deal of trouble if they continued there."
Half of page 4 has: "American News" with several reports including: "Sir Guy Carleton in his conference with his Excellency General Washington...declared he could not positively assign the time when the British garrison would be withdrawn from New York...".
Eight pages, 8 1/4 by 11 inches, nice condition.
