DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, December 1, 1863 A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy, the city through which all war news would eventually flow.
The front page has: "From Northern Virginia" "From Georgia" "The Courts" "City Intelligence" "The Care of Our Wounded" "Another Flag of Truce Steamer--More Christmas Presents for the Yankee Prisoners" "A Voice From the Hells", this latter article being a full column which begins: "As it is seldom that the public is enabled to obtain a correct report from those dens of iniquitous insult, torture and suffering, called Yankee prisoners, I will...date to attempt a brief description of what it has been my fortune to see during an imprisonment of several months in Forts Delaware, McHenry and Norfolk..." with much more, offering some horrendous reporting on life in a Civil War prison.
The back page has the always interesting editorial, which begins: "The news from the West continues to be most discomforting. It appears that Grant is doing his best to fulfill the arrogant orders of his masters, & that Bragg has been getting himself whipped again near Ringgold..." with much more.
Also on the bkpg: "Additional From the North--Extraordinary Lying--A graphic Picture of the South & Her People--How Yankee Prisoners are Starved, Tortured & Put to Death by the Rebels" "Advance of Meade's Army--Yankee Speculations" "Exchange of Prisoners" "Letter of John Minor Botts" & a few other items.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a full column masthead, very nice condition.
