Item # 666400

April 23, 1934

CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, April 23, 1934

* Outlaw John Dillinger
* Little Bohemia Lodge shootout
* Nice 1st report for display

The front page has a terrific banner headline announcing: "HUNT DILLINGER; 2 DIE, 4 SHOT" with a subhead noting: "Desperadoes Escape North Woods Trap".
The article carries over to page 8 where is a rather large map headed: "Dillinger Escapes Trap In North Woods" as well as a one column photo of John Dillinger. The back page includes a photo of Dillinger's father, captioned: "Dad Admits His Desperado Son Is Smart." with more.
This was the infamous botched raid by the FBI at the Little Bohemia Lodge upon the John Dillinger Gang.
When it comes to gangsters, organized crime, and the nefarious activities born out of the Prohibition and Great Depression, no city is more in the forefront of our minds than Chicago. And what better newspaper can be found than the Chicago Tribune, self-proclaimed to be "The World's Greatest Newspaper" - attributed in part to its dramatic, banner headlines.
Complete in 32 pages, this is the "rag edition" printed on very high quality newsprint meant for institutional holdings. In great condition as such, a few small binding holes at the blank spine.
