THE MASSACHUSETTS GAZETTE & THE BOSTON WEEKLY NEWS-LETTER, March 19, 1772 

* Rare colonial title w/ nice masthead

The front page has tw lengthy letters which question the independence of Massachusetts from England. One item notes: "...guarded against tend in my opinion to the destruction of the town, and must greatly affect the glorious cause of Liberty, which you as well as myself have been struggling hard to maintain...".
The lengthier letter begins: "I fully agree with you as to the very great importance of the question, 'Whether the Massachusetts government hath been an independent state from the beginning...". It also includes a oblique reference to the Boston Massacre (see).
Page 2 has a report from New Bern, North Carolina, concerning the Regulators. Page 3 has a lengthy: "Proclamation" signed by: T. Hutchinson, the governor of Massachusetts. Colonial reports continue on the back page as well including another reference to the War of Regulation.
Four pages, two small holes at fold junctures at the front leaf, minor margin wear, archival strengthening to the inside spine margin.
