THE VILLAGE VOICE, Greenwich Village, New York, March 21, 1968
* Big Brother & The Holding Company (Classic Lineup)
* Janis Joplin, Sam Andrew, James Gurley, Peter Albin, & Dave Getz
* Only a few days after Jimi Hendrix's famous midnight performance at Cafe Au Go Go in Greenwich Village (see note below)
This iconic newspaper from Greenwich Village contains a 1/4 page ad for the upcoming performances at The GENERATION Nightclub, in Greenwich Village, one being for Big Brother & The Holding Company (the "classical Janis Joplin era" - although their names are not mentioned). Great to have a local ad for such a rare performance. Ironically, this ad appears only 4 days after Jimi Hendrix's famous midnight performance at Cafe Au Go Go, which is not mentioned at all even though it was such an incredible success. To add to the irony, The GENERATION Nightclub - the focal point of this issue, would later be purchased by Jimi Hendrix who would rename it, Electric Lady Studios.
Other ads include are for The Doors, a back-issue of the the issue which featured The Beatles (and includes a photo of the cover), Gladys Night and the Pips, an Anti-War Demonstration, and more.
The issue is complete 64 pages, has a few margin-contained edge tears which are common, and is in overall good condition.
Note: Many issues of The Village Voice contain articles and/or photos which some consider offensive, and are certainly inappropriate for children. If purchasing, please do so with discretion.
Provenance note: This issue comes from The Village Voice's own archives, part of their in-house collection used to create their digital archive. Quite honestly, due to content and provenance, how does one determine the value such a rare issue?
