UNITED STATES' GAZETTE FOR THE COUNTRY, Philadelphia, Aug. 14, 1809 

* Napoleon Bonaparte captures
* Pope Pius VII - Papal States


Page 3 has: "Annihilation of the Pope's Temporal Power" which is a report from Rome concerning Napoleon capturing the papal states, noting: "...has been published...a decrees of his majesty the emperour & king, which unites the states of  the Pope to the French empire..." and which includes a document signed in type by: Napoleon, listing seven Decrees beginning with "The States of the Pope are reunited to the French empire."
Also: "By the President of the U. States of America, A Proclamation" signed in italic type: James Madison. Another item notes; "Last Monday departed this life...his Excellency JONATHAN TRUMBULL, Governor of the state of Connected, aged 49."
Four pages, very nice condition.
