THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, July 20, 1674
* James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth
* Becomes chancellor of Cambridge University
The front page begins with a report concerning the famous Duke of Monmouth, some eleven years before he would be beheaded for treason in 1685.
This is a more pleasant report, datelines from "Cambridge" noting: "This day the Senate of this University, in a full Assembly, unanimously elected his Grace the Duke of Monmouth to be their Chancellour..." with a bit more.
Single sheet, 7 by 11 inches, bit of foxing at folds, nice condition.
