THE NEW YORK HERALD, February 27, 1870

* Very 1st NYC subway opens (1st report)

The top of page 7 has one column headings: "'Under Broadway'" "Proposed Underground Railroad..." Coverage on the opening of the Beach Pneumatic Transit subway. This was New York City's very 1st subway and was invented by Alfred Ely Beach. It's power source was pneumatic. Historic! Great to have in this famous NYC title.
Other news of the day. Complete in 12 pages, a printing flaw at the beginning the subway article affects appearance (see), otherwise very nice.
