Pages 2 & 3 contain an article: "To The People" by the publisher, Harry Croswell, a staunch critic of Thomas Jefferson. This article does much to defend his statement: "That Mr. Jefferson in an Infidel...That he would be pleased with a subversion of christianity in this country...".
At the beginning is: "Much has been said & written concerning Mr. Jefferson's religious sentiments. There is a class of men professing to be christians, who say that it is immaterial whether he is an infidel or not. Another class...consider that a christian country should have christian rulers...".
A very notable article. To say the relationship between Croswell & Jefferson was a contentious one would be an understatement. The renowned case of the People v. Croswell began when Croswell published in 1802 an attack on Jefferson causing Croswell be be indicted for seditious libel.
Eight pages, 9 1/2 by 11 inches, nice condition.
