September 13, 1803

THE BALANCE & COLUMBIAN REPOSITORY, Hudson, New York, Sept. 13, 1803  Keeping in mind that the Louisiana Purchase happened this year, the first 1 1/2 pages are taken up with an interesting report titled: "A Comparative View of the Disadvantages & Benefits which would Probably Accrue to the United States from an Enlargement of Their Territorial Limits by the Purchase of Either LOUISIANA or the FLORIDAS".
Inside has the conclusion of: "A Correct History of Harry Croswell's Trial". Also a lengthier article on the facing page. Croswell was a pro-Federalist newspaper editor, convicted of libel against President Thomas Jefferson in a landmark case in New York.
There is a lengthy: "Account of the Death & Character of Col. Isaac Hayne" (loss to about 4 words at a corner).
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 10 3/4 inches, damp staining, good condition save for the mentioned loss at one corner.
