August 10, 1936

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, August 10, 1936

* Americans claim track championship
* Ohio State sprinter Jesse Owens
* Berlin, Germany Olympics
* Adolph Hitler era

The front page of the sport's section has a banner headline: "U. S. WITH 12 FIRSTS, RETAINS OLYMPIC TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP" with subheads that include: "OWENS FIRST AMERICAN TO WIN FOUR GOLD MEDALS SINCE GAMES OF 1900" and more. Coverage continues on page 2 with photo of Owens crossing the finish line in the 200. (see)
A sidebar to the Olympic games was Adolph Hitler's refusal to acknowledge the achievements of the African-American athletes, not surprising given his belief that only his superior German Aryan race would dominate at the games.
Complete with all 30+ pages, light toning at the margins, small binding holes along the spine, generally nice.
