THE VILLAGE VOICE, Greenwich Village, New York, September 9, 1980 (for September 10-16, 1980), VOL. XXV No. 37

On September 13, 1980, Elton John performed a free concert in Central Park, New York. The concert drew an estimated 400,000 spectators, which places it in the top 10 biggest (in terms of crowd-size) concerts ever held in Central Park. Page 59 of this issue has a full-page ad for the concert.

Also present is a great article, starting on page 33, is written by Carol Cooper featuring Bob Marley: "Tuff Gong: Bob Marley's Unsung Story", which takes more than 3 pages and includes multiple photos. See images for details. Yet another nearly full-page article on page 63 is regarding Billie Holiday.

Many of the other classic elements (Nat Hentoff, Jules Feifer, etc.) which helped make The Village Voice such an iconic publication are also present.

Although one of the pages has a small archival mend, the issue is in overall good condition.

Note: Many issues of The Village Voice contain articles and/or photos which some consider offensive, and are certainly inappropriate for children. If purchasing, please do so with discretion.

Provenance note: This issue comes from The Village Voice's own archives, part of their in-house collection used to create their digital archive. Quite honestly, due to content and provenance, how does one determine the value such a rare issue?
