J.E.B. Stuart print on the front page of this Confederate newspaper...

Item # 663202

September 27, 1862

THE SOUTHERN ILLUSTRATED NEWS, Richmond, Virginia, Sept. 27, 1862

* General J. E. B. Stuart
* Very rare Confederate title

A rare scarce title, meant to be the Confederate answer to "Harper's Weekly" although it fell miserably short. Comparatively few illustrations, highlighted by a page 4 note: "Wanted Immediately - Two competent wood engravers. The highest price ever paid in this country will be given to good artists."
This is just the vol. 1 number 3 issue with a ftpg. illustration of; "Gen. J.E.B. Stuart" with half of the page taken up with a biography of him. Much of the content is literary although page 4 has a lengthy editorial with much reflection on the current status of the war. It begins: "Intelligence from all quarters still continues favorable to the cause of the Confederacy..." with much more (see).
Complete in 8 pages, various foxing, otherwise good condition.
