April 12, 1947

CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, April 12, 1947.

* Jackie Robinson's 1st start with Brooklyn Dodgers
* MLB baseball color barrier is broken (pre-season)

The front page of section 2 (sports) has a seven column headline: "Dodgers Whip Yankees, 14-6; Robinson Hitlesss" with subheads that include: "24,237 WATCH JACKIE DRIVE IN THREE RUNS" and more with box scores. (see)
Complete with all 30 pages, light toning at the margins, small library stamp within the masthead, small binding holes along the spine, generally nice.

Note: This was the first time an African-American appeared in an official major league baseball game (pre-season). America's favorite pastime would never be the same. While taken for granted in the 21st century, such events were major milestones in the slow progression of the U.S. Declaration of Independence's claim that "all men are created equal".
