MISSISSIPPI FREE TRADER, Jackson, Mississippi, March 31, 1865. A quite rare Confederate newspaper from very late in the Confederacy. Text on the front page and back page verify this is as Confederate newspaper and not Union occupation.
A ftpg. item headed: "HIGHLY IMPORTANT!" includes: "...the forces of the enemy, consists of Sherman's and Schofield's combined commands..." with much more. Lengthy ftpg. "Military Notice" and "The New Revenue Laws" plus back page items: "The Negro Bill" is headed: "A Bill to Increase the Military force of the Confederate States" which takes half a column. So much more as well.
A single sheet issue, the paper is thin in spots with holes not caused by wear but made during the paper-making process. Some wear and minor tears at the margins, light dirtinesss/browning, an archival mend on the back page causes no loss.
