December 30, 1776

THE LONDON GAZETTE EXTRAORDINARY, England, December 30, 1776

* Battle of Long Island - New York
* American Revolutionary War
* General William Howe victory

"Extraordinary" issues were printed when notable news was received outside the regular printing schedule, and issue as such to get into circulation as quickly as possible. Typically such Extraordinary issues were entirely taken up with a singular account, as is the case with this issue.
The focus of this issue is a terrific report on the battle for New York and the eventual evacuation of the city by George Washington. It begins with a very detailed letter signed in type by: W. Howe, dated at "New York, November 30, 1776". Following this are two other related accounts.
The issue also includes the listing of the "Return of commissioned & non-commissioned officers, rank & file, killed, wounded & missing...of General Howe in several actions with the rebels from the 17th of September to the 16th of November, 1776...". Photos show only portions of the lengthy & detailed content.
Truly a terrific issue with a great wealth of historic content on this significant event in the Revolutionary War.
Eight pages, partial red tax stamp on the front page, nice condition.
