* re. Slave trader Nathaniel Gordon's execution
* Abraham Lincoln refuses to commute sentence


The most noteworthy item is found on the front page headed: "The Case of Gordon" "The Text of the President's Respite--No Hope for a Pardon" which includes President Lincoln's warrant refusing to commute Captain Nathaniel Gordon's sentence, although he did provide a few weeks of delay.
On February 21, 1862, Nathaniel Gordon became the only slave trader in the history of the United States to be tried, convicted, and executed for being engaged in the slave trade.
