September 14, 1850

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Sept. 14, 1850

* re. Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
* United States Senate debates
* Southern slave holders & Northern Free-Soilers
* Best title to be had from our nation's capital (rare)

Being the mouthpiece of the federal government it was typical that reports & documents emanating from Congress would appear in print first in this newspaper. Collectors always desire to have notable governmental reports in newspapers from the nation's capital.
Not surprisingly almost all of pages 1 and 2, and a portion of page 3, are taken up with verbatim "Debate in the Senate" "Slave Trade in the District of Columbia". This controversial topic would result in the abolishing of slave trading in D.C. on September 20 as part of the Compromise of 1850.
Four pages, very nice condition, and terrific to have this historic content in a D.C. newspaper.
