Item # 661461
January 16, 1863
DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Jan. 16, 1863
* Battle of Stones River
* Murfreesboro TN Tennessee
* From capital of the Confederacy
Not just a Confederate newspaper, but one from the capital of the Confederacy.
Over two columns of the front page are taken up with much detail on: "The Battle Of Murfreesboro" with the photos showing on the beginning. Nice to have details of this significant battle on the front page of a Confederate newspaper.
Also on the ftpg. is: "Butler's Rule In New Orleans" has some horrible comments about him, portions including: "...letters indicating in some slight degree the real character of the atrocious, despotism established by Butler in New Orleans. In the face of this black page of history the Yankee Congress has given him a vote of thanks...Was there ever such a reward of infamy?..." with more (see).
The ftpg. also has: "Latest News From The North" "City Intelligence" "One Thousand Yankees Arrived" "From Our Army in the West" and more.
The back page has reporting from both: "The Confederate Congress" and "The Virginia Legislature". There is also a column long editorial concerning the progress of the war, from the Confederate perspective.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, some very minor edge wear, generally in nice condition. Simply a great wealth of reporting on the Civil War, with an emphasis on the significant Battle of Murfreesboro.
