THE CONNECTICUT JOURNAL, New-Haven, Jan. 16, 1783 A front page has report under "Philadelphia" marks another event in the close of the Revolutionary War, reading, in full: "Accounts from Virginia received here yesterday mention that Charlestown is evacuated by the British, and that Gen. Greene is in full possession of that place." Another report in the same column mentions an important development in the famous territorial dispute between Connecticut and Pennsylvania, stating that: "We hear the judges appointed to determine the territorial controversy between this state and Connecticut have unanimously decided in favor of Pennsylvania."
In another late-war report is word that England has acknowledged the independence of America. The report, under "New-London" says: "While Captain Wattles lay at the Fly, a principal merchant in Amsterdam, wrote him as follows.--'I have the pleasure to inform, that Mr. Adams set off yesterday for Paris, and that England consents to acknowledge the independence of your empire.'" A single sheet measuring 14 by 8 1/4 inches, two small holes along the center fold, plus archival mends to a few minor tears, otherwise in very good, untrimmed condition.
