September 19, 1944

THE NEW YORK TIMES, September 19, 1944

* Operation Market Garden begins
* Post D-Day Europe
* World War II - WWII

The front page has a nice banner headline: "BRITISH MEET AIR ARMY AND BOTH DRIVE NORTH; AMERICANS FIGHT REINFORCED FOE AT AACHEN" with subheads that include: "Sky Troops Race Germans For Control of Bridges" and related photo. (see) More on page 3. First report coverage on the great paratrooper raid in the Netherlands. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day with much more on World War II. Complete in 36 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
