THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, Feb. 8, 1668

* Among the earliest of English language newspapers to be had

The front page begins with a report noting in part that a ship: "...laden with wines for a market...bound for the Barbado's. The Elizabeth of Dover bound for Burdeaux, and the Welcom of London from New England, homewards bound with her lading of tobacco, sugars, and beaver."
This is followed by another report beginning: "Here is lately arrived a small ship from Virginia, without any other information then of the thriving condition of that Plantation...".
Very early newspaper mention of the New World.
Single sheet, 6 1/2 by 11 1/4, some rubbing, generally good.
