November 23, 1813

THE WAR, New York, Nov. 23, 1813  This is an interesting and somewhat short-lived newspaper which came into existence for the expressed purpose of reporting news from the War of 1812.  When the war ended so did this newspaper. Most of the ftpg. is taken up with: "Barbarities Of The Enemy...Detention of Mariners as Prisoners of War, who were in England at the Time the War Was Declared" being part of a continued series. Also on the ftpg: "South-Western Army" plus inside reports include: "Movements of the Armies" being a report from Albany, and "Submission of the Northern Indians--A Proclamation by Wm. H. Harrison..." signed by him in type. Also: "From Chesapeake Bay" and "Melancholy Accident" plus various other short reports relating to the War of 1812. The bkpg. has "Important Documents which includes a letter from George Prevost, and "Lower Canada" plus "Military Force of the Canadas". Complete in 4 pages, some browned areas but causing no loss of readability, generally in nice condition. Measures about 9 1/2 by 12 inches.
