THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR, Boston, September 30, 1954

* Willie Mays "The Catch"
* World Series of baseball
* New York Giants

In the world of sports history--and certainly in baseball history--an event which ranks high on the list of most historic moments is "the catch" by Willie Mays during the first game of the 1954 Major League Baseball World Series. It was the eighth inning and the score was tie at 2-2, two runners on, and Giants' center fielder Willie Mays, who was playing in shallow center field, made an on-the-run over-the-shoulder catch on the warning track to make the out. The Giants would go on to win the game, and the World Series.
Page 12 has reporting on the first game of the 1954 World Series with box scores. (see) Text includes: "But there might never have been a Rhodes story except for one of the most remarkable catches in World Series history--by Mays...."
Complete with all 14 pages, some small binding holes along the spine, generally nice.
