March 07, 1666

THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, March 7, 1666 (by today's calendar this would be 1667)

* re. the great Fire of London
* Earliest of newspapers to be had

Reports relating to the Great Fire of London are very rare, as this newspaper was essentially the only newspaper printing in London spanning the period of the Fire and afterwards. The bottom of the back page has mention of it with: "These are to give notice that the Committee for Letting the Lands & Tenements belonging to the chamber of London...that the tenants of any houses burnt or demolished in the late dreadful Fire, may, if they see cause, on those days apply themselves to the said committee." (see) The Great Fire of London occurred 6 months prior.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, 7 by 11 inches, very nice condition.
