December 10, 1782

THE CONNECTICUT COURANT & WEEKLY INTELLIGENCER, Hartford, Dec. 10, 1782  A very handsome issue with ornate lettering in the masthead makes is nice for display.
The prime content is the page 2 reporting on the Huddy-Asgill Affair. Website have full details, but in brief Capt. Huddy, an American officer, was hanged by the British in reprisal  for the killing of a Loyalist. Washington was incensed, and had British prisoner Capt. Asgill selected (they drew straws) to be hanged in retaliation. Ultimately the French & Congress intervened, and page 2 has the report from Congress noting: "...Resolved That the Commander in Chief be directed and he is hereby directed to set Captain Asgill at liberty."
What follows is Washington's letter to Asgill informing him of the decision, with further detail. It is signed in type: G. Washington.
There are additional end-of-war items on pages 2 and 3 as well.
Four pages, minor archival mend at the top of the spine affecting no text, nice condition.
