November 01, 1771

THE LONDON MAGAZINE, England, November, 1771
Near the back are 1 1/3 columns headed: "America" which includes a detailed account of a slave insurrection on the island of Barbadoes.
Three pages are taken up with: "A Moving Account of the Captivity of Mr. Belle-Isle Among the Attakapas, a Nation of American Cannibals". The Atakapa Indians were a tribe in Louisiana. This is an account of the romantic adventures of a French officer, Simars de Belle-Isle, left upon the Gulf Coast in 1719. In 1721 Belle-Isle & others visited Trinity Bay and carried some Indians off with them to New Orleans. The Indians subsequently escaped and returned to their own country.
The photos show only portions of the lengthy report.
A very interesting feature is the full title/contents page which has a very intricately engraved view of the skyline of London at the time, making this very decorative.
Two of the three plates called for are present.
Complete in 52 pages, 5 by 8 inches, excellent condition.
