The United States Presidential election of 1848 was the first election in which all states held their election on the same day. This also marked the 1st Tuesday of November as the fixed date for the national election.
This issue in particular has, at the top of the first column on page 2, an illustrated ad supporting "Lewis Cass for President and William O. Butler for Vice President" (see photo). News regarding the Democratic State Convention (of New Hampshire) is found below this ad/ticket.
Various news of the day & a wealth of additional ads are found throughout. One of the illustrated ads is for "HOWES & CO.'S Great United States Circus!"
