CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, May 12, 1945

* Leonard Siffleet execution
* Australian Commando
* Japanese samurai

Although the front page banner headline notes: "STALIN NOTES JAR ALLIES", the most notable item is the quite famous--if not very disturbing--photo of an Allied soldier about to be beheaded by a Japanese officer in Papua New Guinea. This photo is located on page 3. (see) This was when it was first made public.
This was Leonard Siffleet, an Australian commando during WWII. Wikipedia has a website specifically on him. This photograph of Siffleet's impending execution became an enduring image of the war, printed in many newspapers to show the brutality of the Japanese towards captured soldiers.
Complete with all 24 pages, light toning at the margins, small library stamp within the masthead, small binding holes along the spine, generally very nice.
