May 15, 1868

FLAKE'S WEEKLY BULLETIN, Galveston, Texas, May 15, 1868 This is an early issue of this newspaper - only a few years after the Yankees took over the port. Galveston was the site of the last naval battle of the Civil War, as the Confederates surrendered the city on June 2, nearly 2 months after the surrender of Lee to Grant at Appomattox in 1865.
This issue contains a variety of articles, political news, and more which provide a snapshot of the early Reconstruction Era in this region.
Eight pages, minor wear, generally nice condition.
