NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Baltimore, Maryland, Oct. 26, 1844 
Over a full column is taken up with a report with a small head: "Illinois. The Mormon war" which is mostly taken up with a letter which begins: "The war is ended and the troops are en route for home. This day the Governor held a treaty with the individuals against whom writs had been issued for being engaged in killed the Smiths..." with much more. Within the article is a subhead: "Mormon Church Difficulties" which includes: "...the Mormons themselves are threatened with dissolution. The widow of Joe Smith it is said is about to quit the church..." with more (see photos).
Other articles in this issue include: "Slave Case" "States of the Union" "The Tariff" " "Mr. Birney, the Anti-Slavery Candidate for the Presidency" and many other items.
Sixteen pages, 8 3/4 by 12 inches with some very lite scattered foxing and lite inking, otherwise is in nice condition.

This newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the 19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
