NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Washington City, July 21, 1838  Inside has over half a page concerning the Trail of Tears, headed: "The Cherokees" which begins: "The removal of Indians, for emigration from the middle district, late Cherokee country, being nearly or quite completed..." with more. Included also are 3 related documents. The "Trail of Tears" was the relocation of Native Americans including Cherokee, Creek, Seminole & Choctaw nations from their homelands to the Indian Territory (Oklahoma). Estimates are that 4000 of the 15,000 relocated Cherokees died on route.
Over a page of various military promotions includes many names which would become famous during the Civil War including Robert E. Lee,  P.G. T. Beauregard, Jubal early, and B(raxton) Bragg among many others.
Sixteen pages, 8 1/2 by 12 inches, very nice condition.
