NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, November 19, 1825 Inside has over half a page taken up with an article from England headed: "Rail Ways" "Opening of the Stockton and Darlington Rail-way" which was the very first railroad line in the world. The report begins: "The formal opening of that stupendous work, which effects a communication between the port of Stockton and the coal field in the interior parts of this country, took place on Tuesday last..." with more on the ceremonies. Much interesting information (see photos).
A great newspaper for any railroad collector. Sixteen pages, 6 by 9 3/4 inches, light scattered foxing, otherwise in good condition.
This small size newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the 19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
