The front page has an article: "California" with news from before gold was discovered, warning caution for emigrants traveling to Calif as: "...The fate of those who have taken the 'short cuts', it is said, ought to be a solemn warning. The horrible sufferings of those who were overtaken by the winter snows on the California mountains in 1846 are enough to appall the stoutest heart..." which refers to the Donner Party tragedy.
Also the front page is mention from the House of Representatives that: "Mr. LINCOLN asked the attention of the House for a moment for the purpose..." with more. In 1846 Abraham Lincoln ran for the United States House of Representatives and won. He served only one term, from March, 1847 thru March, 1849, so Congressional reports with mention of Abraham Lincoln are quite scarce. Lincoln returned home after his term and resumed his law practice.
Complete in 4 pages, a bit irregular along spine, nice condition.
