DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Dec. 27, 1849

The top of pg. 3 has a column headed: "Late From California" which includes a letter with good comments concerning the Gold Rush including: "...steamer Panama arrived here...having left San Francisco...brings 235 passengers...there is about $50,000 in gold dust & specie from Mazatlan and the remainder in gold dust from San Francisco...number of passengers direct from the mines looking rusty enough but with well filled gold bangs. There is one among them who has $20,000 in gold dust, the result of his own diggings..." with more on the diggings in California.
Also on pg.3 is: "Death of the Prophet of the 'Millerites' " which begins: "Mr. William Miller died at his home in Kompton, Washington county, N.Y...." with more. The Millerites were a religious sect which believe the Second Coming would occur in 1843-4.
