ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, Oct. 29, 1939

* 1st colored superman comic promotion
* Very early & rare item re. this superhero

As serious collectors of Superman material know, November 5 was the date of the very first Superman color comic strip to appear in Sunday newspapers. It was obviously a great success.
What many may not be aware of is the promotion in advance of the release.
The color comic section of this issue from one week prior has a half page color advertisement announcing: "Watch For SUPERMAN In Color" with further text including a bit of his background: "...SUPERMAN flies through the air, he swims faster than a torpedo, he hops over skyscrapers--always crusading for justice against the forces of evil. See the first of SUPERMAN'S adventures in color Next Sunday in the Post-Dispatch..." and more.
Additionally, this issue contains a black & white Superman comic strip.
We offer the complete Sunday edition including the rotogravure section and the color comic section, etc. Very nice condition, small binding holes at the blank spine, a few comic leaves are mostly separated at the blank spine margin not touching any of the comics.
