Rare mention of 'Africans' (living in Boston) holding a special day of thanksgiving...

Item # 657040

July 13, 1812

INDEPENDENT CHRONICLE, Boston, July 13, 1812  In addition to multiple acts signed by President James Madison, and multiple War of 1812-themed reports, page 3, under "THANKSGIVING," has a rare mention of "The Africans in Boston" (African Americans?) holding a day of thanksgiving commemorating the abolition of the Slave Trade. Details of a related march are provided, with the mention of multiple, well-known Boston streets. See images for details. Although others may be found, this is the first time we have come across such a report.
Complete in 4 pages and in very nice condition.
