THE READING INDEPENDENT, [Redding] California, Feb. 5, 1880  This town is located not far south of the Oregon border, situated along the Siskiyou Trail. Redding became a stop on a trade and travel route connecting California's Central Valley and the Pacific Northwest. It was originally named for early California pioneer, Pierson Reading, but then was changed to recognize railroad man Benjamin Redding in 1874.
Various news and ads of the day, many of which are illustrated, four pages, never bound nor trimmed, minor margin wear, inked news agent's stamp at the very top. Good condition.
