October 21, 1864

DAILY EXAMINER, Richmond, Virginia, Oct. 21, 1864

* John S. Mosby - Guerrilla leader
* 43rd Battalion, Virginia Cavalry
* From the capital of the Confederacy

A wealth of Civil War reporting from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page includes: "Report Surprise of Mosby's Command" which includes: "...Northern papers say...surprised the camp of Mosby near Piedmont, Va., & captures some artillery, prisoners, horses...the captured guns have been sent to this city...This is all a Yankee lie. Mosby's command has no artillery--not a single cannon. Despite this reported surprise of Mosby's camp his men seem to be hovering about..." with more. This would have been just before Mosby's famous "Greenback Raid".
Much other Civil War reporting on the ftpg. as well including a lengthy editorial.
The back page includes: "The War News" "Missouri" "East Tennessee" "The Valley" "The Negro Race Course" "Slight Engagement at Millen, Louisiana" and more.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, a printing error at the top causes a blank space in an upper corner of the ftpg. affecting some words in the editorial, otherwise nice.
