DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, July 28, 1864
* Confederate General Jubal Early
* Shenandoah Valley Campaign
A newspaper from the capital of the Confederate states, the city through which all news reports flowed during the Civil War.
The front page includes: "The War News" which begins: "General Early's victory in the Valley has had its effect upon Grant...". Also: "From Petersburg" "From Louisiana" "City Intelligence" and a letter to the Examiner signed in type: "One of Price's Ragged Rebels", plus other smaller items.
The back page has the always interesting editorial, this one taking over 2 columns. Also: "Latest News From the North" "American Affairs In Europe" "Effects of the War--Appalling Carnage--Grant's Losses" "A Northern View of the Campaign Against Richmond" "Speculating in Black Substitutes" and more.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a one column masthead, typical from the South late in the war due to the lack of newsprint. Never bound or trimmed, nice condition.
