NEW YORK HERALD, Feb. 22, 1862
* Battle of Fort Donelson, Tennessee
* Slave trader Nathaniel Gordon execution
The dominant feature is the large front page map headed: "THE DECISIVE BATTLE IN TENNESSEE". There is a wealth of front page column heads on the Civil War as well.
The back page has an interesting report headed: "Execution of Captain Gordon" "History of the Slaver's Career" "His Attempt to Commit Suicide" "Shocking scene at the Execution" "Interesting Details of His Last Moments". A very detailed account taking over two columns.
Nathaniel Gordon has the distinction of being the only American who was tried, convicted, & executed for being engaged in the slave trade.
Eight pages, very nice condition.
