NEW YORK HERALD, July 9, 1876

* The Custer massacre
* Battle of Little Big Horn
* Chief Sitting Bull autobiography
* Jesse James-Younger Gang
* Otterville, Missouri train robbery (1st report)

This is a great issue on the General Custer massacre, with very nice page 3 column headlines including: "THE SIOUX WAR" "General Terry's Official Report on Custer's Gallant March to Death" "Gibbon's Rescue of Reno" "Danger Threatening from Defection of Friendly Indians" "White Outlaws Lead the Reds" "General Sheridan Thinks the Army Strong Enough to Crush Sitting Bull's Band" and more, along with the official: "General Terry's Report". A great wealth of fine content.
Plus more related reports on Custer: "The Results of the Battles with the Sioux" which is an editorial; "The Life of a Savage" "Honors To Custer's Memory" "The Dead Herald Correspondent". This latter article concerns the death of Mark Kellogg, a N.Y. Herald reported who was killed in the battle, and the only reported who rode with Custer's troops.
Also on this same page is an interesting illustration headed: "Sitting Bull's Autobiography--Scene in the Life of the Sioux Chief from a Picture-Language Book Drawn by Himself."
Other fine reports as well including the infamous Otterville train robbery committed by the James-Younger gang of outlaws. In fact there are two reports on the event: Capture of a Railroad Train "A Large Band of Thieves Stop a Missouri & Pacific Railroad Train--$16,000 Supposed To Be Stolen" and the other report begins: "The most daring railroad robbery on record was perpetrated on Friday night...on the Missouri Pacific Railroad, a short distance east of Otterville, Mo..." with more.
Complete in 12 pages, nice condition.
