Item # 655123
July 5, 1931
THE NEW YORK TIMES, July 5, 1931
* Nikola Tesla - Father of the radio
The front page of section 2 (page 21) has one column headings that include "TESLA, 75, PREDICTS NEW POWER SOURCE" "Intimates Discovery Soon to Be Announced Has to Do With Harnessing Sun Rays" and more. (see) I suspect this would be one of the few publications to report this.
Also nice report on page 7 in the sports section with a banner headline: "Von Elm and Burke Tie for U.S. Open Title With 292; Will Play Off Today" with related photos involving Billy Burke & George Von Elm.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Sixty plus pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Sections are out of order with a few unrelated sections missing, very nice condition.
