AMERICAN MERCURY, Hartford, Aug. 15, 1805 Page 3 has an interesting item concerning the attacks on the character of Thomas Jefferson (likely reference to the Sally Heming affair) beginning; "The most forcible & conclusive answer to all the malevolent attacks pointed at the reputation of Mr. Jefferson is the happiness of the people..." and more, with: "...By infamous libels, base slanders, and obscene invented tales of detraction, the federalists have reduced themselves from the standing of a party to the condition of a faction...They have dug their own grave, and they will shortly buy themselves."
Four pages, some foxing, minor archival repairs at the margins, a bit of margin chipping, good condition.
