October 27, 1866

LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED, New York, Oct. 27, 1866  An inside page of this issue has, under "Our Base-Ball Illustration", a 2 3/4 by 2 inch portrait of: "Chas. D. Walker, Active B.B. Club, N.Y."
Includes a biographical sketch of Walker, which states, in part: "...Mr. Walker, as a pitcher, has probably no superior in the country, ranking with McBride, for speed and command of the ball....As a fielder in his position he is perfectly fearless of the swiftest batted balls....Walker is not only a first-class pitcher, a fine fielder and a good batsman, but he has proved himself to be an efficient captain..." and more.
Early for such baseball content, especially with a portrait.
Sixteen pages, an upper corner of most inside leaves is missing causing no loss to the baseball print & article, good condition.
