* President Lincoln emancipates the slaves in Washington, D.C.
* Battle of Shiloh - Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee
The most noteworthy content is found on the back page: "Important Message of the President to Congress" "The Abolition of Slavery in the District of Columbia" "The Bill for that Purpose Signed by the President" with the full text of the document included, signed in type: Abraham Lincoln.
This Act ended slavery in the nation's capital and compensated both former owners and freed slaves.
Page 4 has a nice editorial on this: "End of Slavery in the District of Columbia" plus considerable pg. 2 reporting under: "The President's Policy" "Howe To Solve the Slavery Question".
Additionally the front page has nice reporting on the Battle of Shiloh, or Pittsburg Landing, with column heads:"The Pittsburgh Landing Battle" which includes several letters signed in type by: U.S. Grant, W. T. Sherman, and P.G. T. Beauregard. Also a very lengthy: "Partial List of Wounded" carrying over to pg. 2.
A wealth of other fine Civil War reports throughout. Eight pages, very nice condition.
